Edit! Also, just so you know... My Great Grandfather is 100% American Indian... making me 1/8th American Indian. Still reading.

I am as much interested in my European background as I am with my American Indian... I can see how a true American Indian might feel this way... but many around here collecting benefits have much less American Indian in them than I do. Not sure how many pure American Indians are around, but there sure aren't many here in the North East coast area.

I thought it relevant given your shared ancestry from both sides. As I myself share ancestry from both sides I can say that I don't find them conflicting. I realize this site is a simplistic view of something more meaningful, but it helped to get the idea on the table.
