Just believe in a rational God, and you can't go wrong. All the in's and out's of the do's, and don't only make for a mess. All people of good will no doubt someday find the truth. One religion verses another has only caused untold damage to the sain belief in God. My religion is better than your religion is the be true to your school mentality that is similar to racism. Trust in a fair God, and you will be set free from all this bickering.

Originally posted by buckkyi think you are going to have quite a time convincing all the strong atheists out there that if they just put their faith in a 'rational god' all will be well. putting your faith in a rational god that does not exist might not hurt anything, but i fail to see how it is the logical thing to do. also, it seems like a paradox to say 'forget religion': your proposal of no religions seems to me to be religion in and of itself. i guess it would depend on how one defines religion.

in short, your words are non-functional -- like square tires or something. they amount to nothing more than putting your mind at ease by convincing yourself that the ultimate truth (whatever it may be) can't be all that bad or binding. this is just speculation on your part, and i find it no more compelling than any other opinion on the subject. besides, who says i don't like the 'bickering' -- sometimes, finding out the truth can be hard work. i rather enjoy the debating.

i forgot to mention before: if you think convincing the strong atheists is going to be tough, you are really going to be in for a treat when you try to convince the xtian fundies of your proposal.
