as noted in the world press.

A senior Hamas official in Gaza has called on Palestinians in the diaspora to “slaughter Jews” around the world.

"During a speech at Friday’s so-called March of the Return protests, Fathi Hamad warned that if the blockade of Gaza, imposed by Israel and Egypt for security reasons, is not lifted by July 19, “every Jew on the planet” should be killed."

( and no, i am not a jew or related to one. )

Sounds truly awful. It reminds of the very prominent U.S. Christian Billy Graham being caught on tape urging Nixon to bomb dams in Vietnam in the hope of causing floods that might cause the death of a million peasant farmers and their families, men, women, children, livestock. Very OT, if one thinks about it.

Do I hold that against Christianity broadly and the Christians I know? No, I don't.

Do I hold the hopes and plans of "a senior Hamas official in Gaza" against Islam or against my Muslim neighbours? No, I don't.

Believing every Jew on the planet should be killed is such an utterly terrible thing.

I wonder how exactly one arrives at a desire like that: to what degree is it the actual religion itself of the person with the genocidal wish, and to what degree is it about politics and political posturing, and [to that end] to what degree it is simply vicious hyberbole [and how much traction does it really have or is it seen as a kind of metaphor for anger], and to what degree is it a visceral reaction to the chronic experience of being brutalized and treated unjustly.

Whatever the truth of the matter, I don't think your senior Hamas official in Gaza makes it seem like Islam is "the religion of peace". Certainly not. I think you'd have to look at other aspects of the religion and the people who adhere to it to get an insight into the scriptural basis for claiming it is "the religion of peace". This guy wanting to slaughter all the Jews around the world is not it.

He sounds like the god of the Jews, Christians and Muslims.
Abrahamic literalists are a serious threat to all peoples.

Maybe there are some people who are genetically hardwired towards evil and they naturally gravitate to activities like murder at the slightest provocation. Some are naturally good and will resist the temptation to get involved in murder despite the provocation.

Hey just calling a spade a spade.

Muslims are slaughtering people around the world and people like you and him turn a blind eye and are as responsible for that blood as the Muslims who do the slaughtering.

You spend half your time here complaining about people being abusive and the other half being abusive yourself.

    Strange fellow.

Which was the "turn a blind eye" bit of my reply to the OP, to your way of thinking?

Here's an idea. How about coming into a thread and not being immediately abusive?

    Give it a try.

Slaughtering is going on all over the world. Sometimes in the name of religion, sometimes in the name of politics, other times because of social status or power and greed. But if you want to talk about religion, then Christians are to blame as well.

Religion has the ability to bring out the worst in people. Like already said there are some people [all religions included] who are naturally inclined towards evil [they are called extremists] and given the right environment that desire to commit such evil will be satisfied.

I would say that religion encourages extremism. Left alone these extremists will often find some other less evil outlet for their extremism
