Any subject would be impossible to know and learn about without referencing the authority.

Every subject in the world has its authority, and you would not hesitate for a second to go to that authority if you wanted to learn of that particular subject.

If you want to repair your Ford Mustang, you would go and get the Ford Mustang owners manual which is the authority.

If you want to know what is God and what is this life, you must go to the authority of Vedanta Sutra by Srila Vyasadeva.

If you go to substitute religion for you knowledge of God, you will be misdirected because they are not the authority.

According to my ford mustang- it's its own authority. My owners manual doesn't tell me how to do a makeshift seal for a leaky roof, or how to get my clutch to catch a bit cleaner. I always found my best luck with the car was opening it up, getting exposed to it, figuring out how all the parts are working and related to one another.

But not wasted effort. Eventually the questions remain to be answered. Iris Murdoch (among many others) argued that it is all very well announcing that metaphysics is a waste of effort but even that requires and assumes a metaphysical argument.

In many ways Kant is very pleasing. I am working(slowly) on his Groundwork for a Metaphysics of Morals this week, and easily distracted I admit. Even if he turns out to be wrong, I find his concepts attractive and humane. I have a sense that he is a basically decent human being.

We have the authority on spiritual matters Vedanta Sutra, and we have substitute religion which is not the authority.....so where shall you go for you direction.

How does anyone know, which is the authority?

The authority will be: the first and original teaching.

The authority will be: the eternal teachings and not recent compilations.

The authority will be: presenting complete knowledge.

The authority will be: authored by God self and authorized pure masters.

The authority will be: accepted by all saints, seers of the truth, spiritual masters and the congregation of devotees.

The authority will: actually give spiritual realization of God from within the heart.

The authority will: support animal protection and care.

The authority will: instruct one what to do, and what not to do for the purpose of purification.

The authority will give: knowledge of (the ETERNAL nature of the soul)

The authority will: give knowledge of the spiritual world and of God self, and describe the process of raising the consciousness to the platform of love of God.

The authority will: be presented to us in the perfect spiritual language of Sanskrit (Sanskrit contains many many words, describing spirituality which no other language does.) ....Sanskrit is a spiritual language, existing to deliver spiritual knowledge to mankind.

The authority will: teach without error.

You know Kant really seems to fall short on these tests. Yet I am reading Kant and not Vedanta Sutra. Fancy. But then I am not looking for God.
