I am conducting an experiment and I need guinea Pigs - You!

All you need to do is post to this thread which of the following you think you are:

1. Theist - believes in the existence of God.
2. Agnostic - not sure whether God exists or not.
3. Atheist - believes that God does not exist.

No quibbling over the definitions; just vote.

I will reveal the (painless) experiment when I get enough volunteers!

Agnostic but I would like to be a theist. I just don't accept any of the gods available 😛

2. Agnostic best describes me.

you say not to quibble over the definitions, but they are clearly inadequate, so i will quibble (you can always ignore my objections if you want). first, you need at least one more category:

4. never heard of god -- don't know what you are talking about.

second, one can hold a belief and not be 'sure' that the belief is correct. so you could have people being (1 & 2) or (2 & 3), for example. that's okay as long as your method of data analysis can accommodate such answers.

I agree with LemonJello. I really want to quibble. However, as I have been ordered not to, I will vote 3. Atheist.

Aye I'll quibble too then.. but about;

4. never heard of god -- don't know what you are talking about.

These are technically Atheists. Who hasn't heard of God, will not believe He exists..

2. Agnostic, with the caveat that I am strongly atheistic on the notion of a christian god.

yes, they are technically implicit atheists, and they are, of course, characterized by a lack of belief in god.

but i think howardgee's definition of 3. Atheist is at the very least an explicit atheist. i still think 4. is needed here. whoever has not heard of god would not answer the question by saying that they believe he doesn't exist. they would answer by saying they have no idea what howardgee is talking about; once they are then introduced to the concept of god, then they could adopt a belief in his non-existence if they were so inclined.
