"European Churches say Growing Flock of Muslim Refugees are Converting"

Some Christian leaders acknowledge that many Muslim refugees may
express their interest in converting to Christianity in the hope that it will
help their asylum applications be accepted or reduce bigotry against them.

"When we do confirmations. we work hard to make sure that person is
serious (about becoming a Christian). We all have mixed motives.
But if someone says, 'I believe this', who are we to make windows into
people's souls? The only thing I can do is see if people are still there
(in Christian churches) a year later--and often they are."
--Toby Howarth (Bishop of Bradford for the Church of England)

So are Christians here more happy or suspicious that many Muslim
refugees are at least professing their interest in becoming Christians?

You have to assume they are serious, they are burning their religious bridges behind them. To go back to where they came from would be certain death because of Apostasy.

It's untrue that a Muslim who converts to another religion cannot then return to Islam.

"7057: How does an apostate come back to Islam"

"His repentance will be accepted until the point the death-rattle sounds in his throat and his soul departs.
If he is guided back to Islam within the time it is possible (before death) and he performs
as many of the Islamic duties as he can, then he is a Muslim."
