Of course I recognized it as bait. The hook in it wasn’t at all sharp and I couldn’t resist taking a few bites.

As for humor, I haven’t seen Monty Python so obviously wouldn’t have gotten the joke.

It might have been funnier, and for a longer time, if you hadn't broken the fourth wall so early, and led people on a bit more, see how long you can draw the schtick out.
