Apparently, disposing of a human body or a body part by eating it is not illegal in the U.S.

And yet, there is a strong taboo - surely, right? - about doing this.

What is the moral basis of this taboo?

I was listening to a philosophy podcast and that was the topic. I'd always assumed that it was illegal. It probably is in "less free" countries than the U.S. I shall have a butcher's.
