Ah, so you have met personally with this deity. Are there others? Does he have a sister?

god = everything. god is not a person. you and I and everyone and everything are part of it.

Speaking as an ex-Christian, I would say the Christian God figure - "to me" as I live among Christians and observe them - is both a focal point/rationale for solidarity and community, and - especially in a country like where I live where Christians are very much a minority - belief in the Christian God figure is a basis for personal identity and individualism in their interactions with others. I think, in many cases, and in the circumstances I mentioned, it generates a certain kind of courage.

I think religion is a required state for most people for the simple reason they need both reassurances that the bad things they see in the sky, like volcano's, thunder, and the like are not against them personally (thinking of people from 10,000 years ago) and the need for ritual, for continuity. It's too bad, however. that such security has to come from such scams as the Abrahamic religions. It is amazing to me people today 2000 years later are still convinced JC and the boys are coming back down to Earth, even though JC himself said 'soon' which to my mind doesn't mean 20 years much less 2000.
it will undoubtedly not happen in 20,000 years or 200,000 years either but people, when I say that, it doesn't matter, he is coming, even if it takes that long.

It really does say something about the alleged intelligence of the human race.

What do you claim it says about intelligence? I doubt I will concur. I've met plenty of adherents of the Abrahamic religions who are demonstrably more intelligent than me. Would you put that down to my lack of Abrahamic belief? Would the gap between their intelligence and mine be even wider if they were to lose their faith? 😉
