how do you define an unfinished debate?

do we have a time limit? a post limit? is there a judge appointed that decides when it is over?

all debates, at least on these forums are unfinished. they last until the parties involved lose interest and/or have nothing more to add

or they last until certain people cannot answer
difficult questions posed to them that may
    1. Show them to be wrong
    2. Show them to be stupid
    3. Show them to be liars
    4. Present them with a dichotomy in their beliefs
