"It had started out like any other day and Reginald really had no inkling at all that he was about to have a divine encounter in the vegetable aisle of his local supermarket. Having reached ‘onions’ on his shopping list and being unsure if his wife had meant red onions or regular onions, the Lord Almighty appeared to him, just above the cauliflowers. Not a particularly religious man Reginald had all the same recognised the significance of the encounter and bowed his head accordingly. With unquestionable authority God had then reached out an arm and pointed at the regular onions."

A question more for agnostics and atheists. How would your life change if you saw God with your own eyes and were left in no doubt of His existence? Could you go back to agnostic or atheistic living, of morning lie ins and chocolate éclairs if you'd met God in the supermarket? And if God is indeed omnipresent, everywhere at all times, could you go about your business without feeling watched, constantly judged?

What would your answer be?

i am not an atheist
but my life would change if i saw God
i am not sure of the changes, but every small butterfly breath changes my path every day
probably i would choose more white onions than red onions
if the recipe calls for it

to heck with my suppositions
nothing would change

And once again the most important question is being ignored because it exposes the false logic of it all.
The question is: How would you know it's the actual God from your religion? How would you know it's not a drug induced hallucination; or a holographic prank; or an advanced alien playing a joke; or a time-traveling comedian?

First I would check with my wife that she did indeed want regular onions, just to confirm God was all-knowing. (That He knew His onions).

All good questions. Can we trust nothing then we see with our own eyes?

That rather depends on what god said to me. If it turns out to be the god of the bible... well, that'd be a tricky one, because I've got some issues with that fella.

Okay....so before an atheist answers the OP question, what exactly would it take to even believe that it was God who showed Himself? What proof is adequate?

(I believe there was a thread about this some time ago)

I would require three proofs of ID. (One with a photograph).

I trust my own senses, more than anything else.

trust, but verify
hallucinations can be so sly

First, we would indeed need to trust the stability of our own mental health.

I think it somewhat likely that there exist, somewhere in the universe, beings who are very much more powerful than humans, to the point that we could think of them as 'gods'.

But I doubt any of them are the gods of human religions.

How would I verify omniscience, and omnipotence, anyway? I can't.

Do you consider it possible these 'super aliens' may be responsible for life on this planet?

Possible? Yes.

Our planet may have been seeded with organic compounds housed in meteors or other debris.
