While I was at work today, I overheard many of my colleagues and customers talking about the Daytona 500. I think that my geographic location has a lot to do with this. I live in the South. NASCAR seems like it is a religion down here. Can someone please help me figure out why so many people enjoy such a nonsese "sport"? How can people actually enjoy watching a bunch of morons drive around in a circle? Racing takes no physical or mental ability. I guess that is why it is so popular here in the South. Perhaps that is the reason.

Perhaps a closer look is needed...Nascar is a sport and a show..The Daytona 500 it's best. To dismiss it as taking no skill is asinine. Throwing your body around a 2.5 mile oval at 180 MPH making decisions that hold your life and others in balance, takes a tremendous amount of courage, skill, talent and intelligence. NASCAR is not your cup of tea and that's fine, millions of others find it to be a remarkable sport and achievement. Congradulations to Kevin Harvick #29 Winner of the Daytona 500.

"Racing" does indeed take a great deal of physical and mental abilities. Many F1 drivers are incredible athletes.
NASCAR, however, has become more about entertainment and a lot less about racing. It sort of reminds me of the WWE. I watch the 500 every year to remind myself why I don't watch any other NASCAR racing for the remainder of the season.

Racing takes 2 balls.

Although not a big fan of N ASSCAR The Daytona 500 turned out to be one heck of a good race. I am more into carts, rally and formula 1 myself.

Very true. To say that racing takes no skill is 100% not true.
