I notice that the lower and higher ranked of the Banded Tournaments struggle to get filled at times. Maybe an adjustment downwards of 100 of each would be better. So they would become 900 - 1099, 1100 - 1299, 1300 - 1499 and 1500 - 1699. At the monet the lower ranked one is not open to players below 1000, which is a shame, a lot would now be able to join in. Also, the higher ranks get enough games in normal tournaments and so don't really need to enter the higher ranked one anyway. I am sure this drop of 100 for each banded tournament would help. Thoughts? 🙂

Strongly disagree on the point highlighted.
As a 1700-1800 player, banded tournies are the only ones that I have a chance of winning, so it should definitely stay.
I take your point Ragnorak, but anyone below 1000 never gets to play in a banded tourney and at least you do stand some chance in normal tourneys where they would not.
There's been a 1k and under tourney, I'm not sure if there's been more then one. Maybe we could have 1 or 2 1k's or under a month just so everyone's got a chance to win. Just a thought. Josh

Fair enough, but instead of suggesting cutting back certain banded tournaments, why not just suggest more banded tournaments for under 1000 people. I'd be with you all the way then. As it is, I posted requests for 1600-1799 tournaments for ages, cos there never was any. I don't want to see them disappear now, even though I'm not entering atm cos I have enough very tough games since the leagues started.
I can understand not many more tournaments will be started than is being started right now. I guess it generates more traffic to and from the webserver? Well, could be the case...
But I think it is (very!) good service to provide (more) rating controlled tournament on a regular basis, and preferly in categories divided by 100's. I mean; a tournament for people rated 1000-1100, 1100-1200, 1200-1300 etcetera.
Or, instead of tournaments constantly divided in 1000-1200, 1200-1400 and such, why not redivid them in 900-1100, 1100-1300, 1300-1500 etcetera, once every while? Those playing just above 1200 are not always the weakest in their tournament, or the ones just under 1200 not always the strongest.

I tend to agree with the 100 point banding especially in the mid ranges. The distribution of players looks like a log-normal bell curve with 1200-1300 at its centre. There are so many more players around the centre than at the edges, so there should either be more tounaments there, or narrower bands.
Looking at the player tables, a good banding would seem to be:
The lower bands are still quite loaded, but it does seem that the lower the ratings, the lower the percentage of subscribers, thus the number of elligable players is reasonably uniform across the bands.

Too bad I peaked just over 1300 for a day, though, now I have to enter a tournament just a bit out of my league...
