    Dustnrogers says...
Hi, i am 18, Lost all my games due to timeouts, junior champ of my
city and province, i hope that i will provide everyone with a competitive
game!!! I play regularly, i promise that with time i will be in the top 10
on this site. other ratings, Gameknot 1909, Fide 2200, ICC 2100. I
have just joined a site that determines my ELO, its 2100 exactly at the
moment. Other sites, such as itsyourturn.com, and playchess, i have
won several tourneys there!!!! Take Carez!!!!!!!!!!!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He was a 1200 a week ago and is now a 1400 - as he says, he lost his
points due to time outs.... surely he should be given the chance to
play amongst his peers? He's down to play in the 1300's.

And, of course, this is exactly what I was referring to in my previous
posts on the subject. It would be a shame if one of the largest
brackets in the tournament was dominated by a 1500+ player. I'm of
the opinion that the TD's should quickly reassess the rankings of
those signed up in the tournament, or, barring that, at least give
those whose rankings have substantially improved the option of
signing up for a higher bracket. I'm not sure what the problem would
be in implementing this, as the tournament just closed to interested
parties and pairings have not yet been finalized.

    Thanks,

    Bennett

Yes. I can see no problem with people being allowed to play in a
higher bracket (within reason). Playing in a lower bracket should of
    course still not be allowed.

The more I read about a lower rated group getting trashed and those
in the lower groups (such as myself) calling for outside assistance to
protect us from the "superior" players, the more PUMPED UP I get
about defending my turf! Let's see how well they do. We're not push-
overs here. I'm certainly no push-over. They're gonna have to get
past me to get that title. And let me tell you, I'm gonna dust off the
board and use it for this tournament. I will look at a position for an
hour if that's what it takes. Hey Dave, match me up with the biggest
fish in MY pond...I'm gonna strip it, salt it, pan fry that baby and eat
    it. Bones and All!

    LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

No player is that good, don't be afraid- he is made of flesh and bones
    like you.

Take it as men, fight on the board and give him hell. If you give up
before- then you have lost half the battle.

    Regards, Nils.

Letting folks kick up into a higher category is a fine idea, but the rule
for this tourney didn't allow it. Them's the breaks.

    Maybe next tourney.

I think it would be tough for TD's to assess folks consistently for
their "real" rating, so letting the rating number stand is probably the
best to do. People would start screaming both ways if they did that.
Sounds like kicking a hornets nest to me....

So far I haven't seen any strong evidence for folks manipulating the
ratings. Yes some folks on the rise are in lower rating groups than
they will be some time down the road, but that always happens. They
are where they are right now.

PS, Good luck in the tourney! Go DAWGS!!!! WOOOF WOOOF! (actually
I'm still a UO Duck at heart, but when in rome....)

I don't think the ratings mean very much at the 1300-1400 bands.
I'm in 1400,but some game scores:
    Rhymester 1 misslead 1, 2 draws.
    Maggoteer 2 misslead 0, 1 draw.
    Fexkorn 1 misslead 0.
But I have a positive score against Dustinrogers
    And,Miss Take (1618) 1 misslead 1.
And,first game I played against Sintubin (1908) was drawn.
Anyone can beat anyone in these two bands.
    Lyn.
Good luck to all,and have fun.
