I think it would be a good idea to have more tournaments with fewer players. You could have a maximum of 8 players and have various tourneys for different abilities and one tourney for all abilities.
e.g.
600-1000
1000-1200
1200-1400
1400-1600 etc. etc.
and 600-2300
These tournaments would be straight one game knockout, with random white/black selection for each player in each round.
When each tournament was full (which would be quite quick in the case of 8 players) a new tournament with the same rating would be posted for entries.
What do you think???

Not a bad idea, but if there are too few entrants in a tournament its value diminishes somewhat.
