Recently I couldn't join a banded tournament (1400-1599) because of the fact my rating was still provsional (I had only completed 19 games).

When the 20th was completed I wanted to join the 1400-1599 as yet, but was not admitted because my highest rating over the last 30 days is 1606. The 1606 number was achieved in the days my rating was still provisional.

I now joined a 1600-1799 banded, and this 'forced choice' doesn't really matter to me, but I somehow find it odd and inconsistent: one is not allowed in certain tournies with a p-rating, but once achieved a 'real' rating a provisional rating still determines where one can play and cannot play.

I agree with sevenstar. The rating caused by the 20th game should be the highest rating at that point.

Why? The rating achieved at the 20th game is based on what happened in the previous 19 games.

Had the player continued to win, then his rating would have risen and the question would not arise.

You can't have it one way and not the other.
