In 2005 championship more than 450 participated, in 2006 championship only 300 subscribed so far.
Could it witness that site's popularity drops - or is it because site was "cleaned" of cheaters? or smth else?
Maybe it's because people are in a lot of tournaments all ready!
Some tournaments have 2x19=38 games. A couple of clan-games, sieges, personal friend games and you have a lot of games to play.
If you have all of these I can imagine that you don't want to have another 2x8=16 games. And let's not forget that most people have no change in winning, then it's an open tournament 0-2500+.
I know contending is more importent than winning and everybody has his or her own goals, but maybe this gives you something to think about. I give it more change if it has different catagories. 0-1000, 1001-1100, or something like that.
Well,I guess you simply have to wait for the tournament to be started to count entrants total, before jumping to such conclusions.
In my opinion site's popularity is growing a lot: when I started playing here, exactly two years ago, in the rated player tables there were barely 2000 players, now there are about 9300.
The same rate of increasment went for Most active players and Most active players of the month,so I guess the site is increasing in popularity terms.
By the way Russ can give a definitive answer about this.
I would say the site has become slightly more popular than when I started out 1½ years ago. And I'm sure we'll have at least 400 participating in the 2006 championship. I'm just wondering why no top 10 player are signed up yet...

That's a good question. I understood that ratings would be changed to 500 when banned. Much cleaner that way, rather than waiting for a 100 days of inactivity.
The 2006 Championship:
I'm not sure that the lack of top 10 players in the championship is due to:
a) Fear of meeting engines, or
b) Fear of attracting too much attention to themselves.
If our top 10 is as good as their ratings suggest, they should enter regardless. There is no excuse.
