Hello, I am very new to this site and I don't really get why thematic tournament are rated?, Should not they be unrated, as the first move are forced ?

Why are they rated?

Why are they rated?

Why shouldn't they be ?? It just locks the players into 'book' to preserve the thematic theme of the opening. No biggie.

if you're interested in thematic tournaments, why not consider joining Club 217?

open tournaments at the moment are Queen's Gambit, English 1..c5, and Grunfeld Defence.
