Unorthodox tourny

I have this idea of a really fun tournament. There are 5 unorthodox openings(grob, hammerschlag etc.). As white you must choose one of the five thematics and your opponent chooses the other as white. This idea is much better then just having 5 tournys because it makes it alot more interesting and fun.

sounds good, maybe black should pick what they want to play

1.Latvian Gambit (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 f5)
2.Borg Defense (1.e4 g5)
3.Barnes Defense (1.e4 f6)
4.Polish Defense (1.d4 b5)
5.Caro-Kann Defense (1.e4 c6)

Perhaps 1.e4 c6 2.d4 f5.

Since as far as I know this opening does not have a name, I hearby christen it the Caro-Kan't.

Good idea, but it has some flaws if white does the hammerschlag then black can do the latvian gambit and it won't be much of a gambit...

What about the Drunken King Opening?

I think he means each player decides which line will be played (ie. two games... one as the Latvian, one as the hammerschlag).

How would you decide who chooses the line as white or black? I think it would be much simpler if each player picked the thematic in their games as white. That way you could use the grob in one game and have to defend against the hammerschlag in another. Mabye there could be a seperate tourny for black unorthodox thematics.

is nobody else going to mention the dreaded crab opening???

im playing a game in the ponzazi (sp!) opening where he moves his queen to guard the pawn.. havnt seen it this way that much, dont know how rare it is this way...
