Anderssen's Mate

A rook delivers checkmate on the back rank, supported by a pawn on a diagonal.

Anderssen's Mate is named after Adolf Anderssen (1818–1879), the dominant chess player of the mid-19th century. A rook delivers checkmate along the back rank, supported by a pawn (or bishop) controlling a key diagonal.
