Aleksandar Čolović is a Macedonian international chess Grandmaster, coach, and author. He was born on 11th of April, 1976, in Skopje.
Čolović started playing competitive chess in 1984. He was notably successful early in his youth, winning the Macedonian championship for players up to 20 years old in 1990 aged just 12.
He earned the International Master title in 1998 and reached the Grandmaster (GM) title in 2008. Čolović was the 5th player from North Macedonia to achieve the GM title.
In addition to being a top-level competitor himself, Čolović is also an acclaimed chess coach. He has served as the national coach for the Macedonia and English women's chess teams, as well as individual coaching with numerous top-level players.
Čolović has written two chess books, "Chess Structures - A Grandmaster Guide" and "The Grunfeld Defence, Explained", demonstrating his depth of knowledge of the game.
Since 2013, he has been blogging about chess, providing insight into his games, discussing developments in the chess world, and sharing his analysis.
He also writes for American Chess Magazine and is the co-founder and editor of the chess publishing company Thinkers Publishing. Off the chess board, Čolović is a graduate of law, and he received his degree from the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje.
