Ivan Šarić is a Croatian chess grandmaster and Croatian Chess Championship winner in 2009 and 2010. Born on August 17, 1990, he earned his international master's title in 2007, and became a grandmaster in 2008. He won the Pula Open in Croatia in 2009 and has won team silver and individual bronze medals for Croatia at the European Team Chess Championship. Šarić won the 2014 European Individual Chess Championship, defeating the World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen at the 2017 FIDE World Cup. He also won the 2018 Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival and defeated reigning World Chess Champion again, Magnus Carlsen, in the 2021 Tata Steel Chess Tournament. He was also a part of the Croatian teams that won European Team Championships in 2005 and 2019.
