Aleksej Alexandrov, (born May 11, 1973) in Belarus, is a renowned chess player who was awarded the title of chess Grandmaster in 1997. He picked up the game at the age of six and started making strides in numerous tournaments from an early age. He was twice the winner of the Belarusian Chess Championship in 1993 and 1995 and also the Under-20 World Chess Champion in 1992.
In the 2000’s, he played for Belarus in seven Chess Olympiads, and won individual silver and team bronze at the 2002 Olympiad. Aside from this, Alexandrov has also won or shared first place in various international tournaments.
In 2008, he reached the semi-finals of the World Cup, which was one of his best results in the World Chess Championship cycle. Earlier in 2002, he made it to round two of the FIDE World Chess Championship but was subsequently eliminated.
