Julen Luis Arizmendi Martinez is a Spanish chess player most notable for achieving the prestigious title of Grandmaster(GM) in 2004. Born on July 5, 1976, he excelled in chess from a young age and won the World Youth Chess Championship for under 14 in 1990. He has also won the Spanish Championship in 2000 and 2013.


His career highlights include competing in the FIDE World Chess Championships 2004 and 2017, and representing Spain in several team events like the Chess Olympiads in 2004 and 2012. He won individual bronze in the latter. In 2014, he took part in the 41st Chess Olympiad which happened in Norway.


Throughout his career, Martinez has not only played in numerous chess tournaments, but he has also written about the game. Among his published works is a book entitled "Completo Caro-Kann," which he co-authored with Adrian Mikhalchishin.
