Keith C. Arkell is a British chess Grandmaster and former British Rapidplay Chess Champion. Arkell was born on January 8th, 1961, in Birmingham, England. He became an International Master in 1985, before moving on to achieve the rank of Grandmaster in 1995.


Arkell has won a number of major tournaments throughout his career. His early successes include winning the Wrexham Open in 1986 and the Paignton tournament in 1987. In addition, Arkell won the British Rapidplay Chess Championship in 1998.


Arkell has also had notable successes in team chess, both at a domestic and international level. He has been a member of the England team that competed in the European Team Chess Championship and the Chess Olympiad, and with his club Cheddleton, has won the 4NCL (Four Nations Chess League) English league competition multiple times.


In terms of style, Arkell is recognised for his endgame skill and is known for his expertise in rook endings, often choosing strategically simple positions that lead to an endgame.


Throughout his career, Arkell has aided in chess education, both sharing his knowledge through commentary on the Internet Chess Club and writing on various chess topics.


Occasionally, he participates in poker championships as well, displaying his strategic prowess in other areas. Despite his age, Arkell remains active within the competitive chess scene and continues to participate in many tournaments.
