Vlastimil Babula is a Czech Chess Grandmaster and four-time Czech Chess Champion. He was born on December 2, 1973 in Uherské Hradiště, Czechoslovakia. He achieved his International Master title in 1992 and became a Grandmaster in 1995. He was given awarded "Chess Oscar" in his country in 2005.
Babula's success in domestic competitions includes winning the Czech Chess Championship four times (1994, 1997, 2005, and 2016). Internationally, he has represented the Czech Republic in numerous team events such as at the European Team Chess Championships, the Chess Olympiads, and the World Team Chess Championship. He contributed to the Czech Republic finishing in 3rd place at the 2005 European Team Chess Championship, which was the nation's highest ever finish.
In addition to his playing career, Babula also works as a chess coach, training several players who have had success on the international stage. Apart from his chess career, he is also an entrepreneur in the field of IT and runs his own software company.
