Marco Baldauf is a German chess grandmaster. He was born on November 5, 1990, in Bergisch Gladbach. Baldauf’s childhood chess career began at age nine, and he excelled quickly, winning the North Rhine-Westphalia U14 championship in 2005.
In 2008, he became an International Master. Then in 2009, Baldauf joined Düsseldorfer Schachklub 14/25. By 2010, he became a Grandmaster and won the German Individual Youth U20 Championship. That same year, he participated in the World Individual Youth U20 Championship, where he ranked 18th out of 109 with a score of 8.5/13.
While studying in Switzerland, Baldauf played for the SK König Tegel in the 2nd Chess Bundesliga in the 2012/13 season and SC Hansa Dortmund in the 2014/15 season. He also played in several Swiss Team Championships for various clubs from 2013 to 2018.
In addition to his many experiences with different chess clubs, Baldauf has had other noteworthy achievements. He finished the 2017 Individual German Championship in third place. He also earned 18th place in the 2019 rapid and 22nd place in the blitz at the European Individual Championships.
