Pier Luigi Basso is an Italian chess Grandmaster (GM). Born on November 29, 1991, in Treviso, Italy, Basso is best known for earning his Grandmaster title in 2018. He started playing chess at a young age and earned his International Master (IM) title in 2013 before moving on to become a GM.
Basso won multiple chess championships throughout his career. He achieved first place in the Italian Chess Championship in 2015 and 2018, and also won the Rilton Cup in Stockholm in 2018/2019. In addition, he represented Italy in numerous international competitions, including the European Team Chess Championship in Greece in 2017 and the Chess Olympiads in 2018.
Moreover, beyond his competitive achievements, Basso contributes to the chess community as a trainer. He earned his FIDE Trainer (FT) title in 2018, and he has been assisting young talents in Italy ever since.
