French chess Grandmaster Christian Bauer was born in Forbach, France on January 11, 1977. He is a three-time French Chess Champion, having won the title in 1996, 2012, and 2015. In addition, he is the author of two well-received chess books.
As a national team member, Bauer represented France in the Chess Olympiad in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016, helping the team win the bronze in 2006. He also participated in the World Team Chess Championships in 2010 and 2011, and the European Team Chess Championships in 2005, 2007, 2011, 2013, and 2015.
Regarding personal life, Bauer has been a resident of Budapest, Hungary since the early 2010s. He authored "The Philidor Files" in 2006, a book covering the Philidor Defence system, and "Play 1...b6", published in 2005, examining an uncommon opening for both the black and white sides.
