Valeri Beim is an Austrian-Israeli chess grandmaster, author, and pedagogue. He was born on 8 March 1950 in Lvov, Ukraine, then part of the Soviet Union. He graduated from Lvov State University before starting a career in chess, which he had learned from his father at an early age.

Beim immigrated to Israel in 1990 and represented the country in many international tournaments, winning the city championships of Kfar Saba and Netanya. He has also participated in five Chess Olympiads, representing three different countries (Ukraine, Israel, and Austria).

During the 34th Chess Olympiad, he moved to Graz, Austria, and has been representing the nation since then. His many accomplishments include Austrian National Championship wins in 2004, 2005, and 2008.

Beyond his chess playing, Beim has also enjoyed a successful career as a chess author and pedagogue. He has written several books about the game, with his most famous being "How to Play Dynamic Chess". He is also known for his work with young talents, such as Markus Ragger. As a trainer, he has lectured at the chess academies in Netanya (Israel), Berlin (Germany), Singapore and Graz (Austria).
