Michael Bezold is a German chess Grandmaster (GM) and FIDE Trainer, who was born on May 23, 1972 in Bayreuth, Germany. He achieved his Grandmaster title in 2003.


In his early years, Bezold won the German Junior Championships in 1991 and 1992. In 1993, he won the individual championship of Bavaria, and in 1994, he became an International Master (IM). He was awarded the title of Honorary Member by the Upper Franconian Chess Association in 2010.


Bezold has taken part in seven Chess Olympiads from 1994 to 2010 with the German team. Other notable victories include the Donau Open in 1994 and 1996, the Open Vila de Sort in 1997 and the Bad Wiessee Tournament in 2003.


Beyond being a competitive chess player, Bezold is also known for his coaching work. In 2002, he trained the Norwegian national junior team at the Chess Olympiad in Bled. Bezold, who is fluent in German, English, French, Spanish, and Russian, moved to Oslo, Norway, in 2005 where he resides and teaches chess.
