Erik Blomqvist (born March 17, 1990) is a Swedish chess Grandmaster (GM), a title he achieved in 2015. Aside from his individual success, Blomqvist has played for Team Sweden in several Chess Olympiads.
His chess career began as a junior player, where he proved his talent by winning the Swedish Junior Championships in 2006. Four years later, in 2010, Blomqvist took silver at the Swedish Championships. He earned his International Master title in 2012 before progressing to Grandmaster status in 2015.
Blomqvist has participated in multiple Chess Olympiads with the Swedish team. He first competed in the Chess Olympiad in 2010, followed by participation in 2012, 2014, and 2016.
In terms of his playstyle, Blomqvist generally employs the Sicilian Defence, French Defence, and Ruy-Lopez opening when he's playing Black, while favouring the Open Game, Queen's Gambit, and Scandinavian Defence when playing White.
Beyond pure competition, Blomqvist also contributes to chess education. He has produced chess-related content published on a Swedish chess school's website, with blogs that provide analysis of games and insight into various strategies.
