Uwe Bönsch is a German chess Grandmaster and a former National Senior Chess Coach for Germany. He was born on 11th December 1958 in Delitzsch, Saxony. Bönsch achieved his International Master title in 1985 and then his Grandmaster title in 1990. His chess career highlights include reaching the Chess Olympiad finals in 1990 as a member of the German team. He also achieved notable performances in several international tournaments; the 1989 Yugoslavian Championship saw him win the Master tournament, and the 2001 tournament in the Czech Republic saw him finish in second place.


In addition to his playing career, Bönsch has a distinguished career as a chess coach, working with both the German Chess Youth and the German Senior National Team from 1991 to 2015. During his tenure, German chess players secured multiple successes, including winning the U20 Junior World Championship in 2011.


Bönsch was the chief arbiter at the Women's World Chess Championship 2008.



He is also involved in chess politics and has been serving as a board member of the German Chess Federation since 2007. Additionally, he was elected as a member of the FIDE Qualification Commission in 2018.
