Emmanuel Bricard is a French chess grandmaster of mathematics, who is best known for his significant contributions and achievements in both fields.



In education, he completed his studies in France and received his higher mathematical education from the University of Bordeaux. He subsequently became a professor of mathematics at the Paris-Sud University for Mathematics.


Bricard is a Champion of France when it comes to the category of correspondence chess, which he won twice in 1972 and 1984. He also won a bronze medal in the World Correspondence Chess Championships between the years of 1984-1992.


He played for French teams at several Team Chess Championships including the European and World Team Chess Championships.


Possessing a deep love for mathematics, Bricard also gained an equally significant reputation due to his contribution to the field of geometric transformations known as Bricard's octahedron and Bricard's theorem.
