John M. Burke is an American chess Grandmaster who was born on April 1, 2001. Notably, Burke was awarded the Grandmaster title by FIDE in 2016 when he was just 15 years old, making him one of the youngest grandmasters at the time. He is ranked among the top 100 players globally and within the top 5 junior players in the United States.
In the course of his career to date, he has achieved some significant milestones. In 2011, Burke became the K-8 champion at the National Elementary Chess Championship. In the following year, he finished first in the World Youth Chess Championship (U12) and won the North American Youth Chess Championship.
In 2017, Burke finished as the second-placer in the U.S. Junior Championship, and in 2018, he was the runner up in the Spring Chess Classic in St. Louis. Burke secured his first place victory at the Capablanca Memorial in Cuba, accumulating 7.5 points in 10 rounds.
