Cabrera began making significant strides in the world of chess from an early age. In 2005, at the age of 13, he win the Cuban U-20 Championship, an exceptional feat for someone in his age group. He also represented his country in the world U-16 Chess Olympiad held in Turkey the same year.
From 2009, he began playing in adult national championships and managed to secure impressive results, including victory in the 2012 Cuban Championship - First League.
One of Cabrera's most impressive achievements is winning the 2016 Copa Marcel Duchamp in Buenos Aires. Following this, he was awarded the grandmaster (GM) title by FIDE.
Cabrera’s performance in international competitions has been noteworthy, with excellent performances in numerous individual tournaments in Latin America and Europe, including Ibero-American Championships and World Open Championships.
