Israel Caspi is an Israeli chess Grandmaster (GM) and an International Correspondence Chess Grandmaster (ICCGM). He was born on March 16, 1943, in Istanbul, Turkey. He migrated to Israel in 1949 and later pursued his higher education in the United States, earning a master's degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of California.
Caspi's earliest championship victory occurred in 1988 when he became Israeli champion. A few years later, he clinched the World Senior Chess Championship in 2004 and 2006. In 2007, he added the European Senior Chess Championship to his list of honours.
He has also represented Israel in several international chess team events. These include four Chess Olympiads from 1990 to 2000, the 2005 European Team Chess Championship and the 2007 World Senior Team Chess Championship where he earned team and individual silver medals.
