Oleg Mikhailovich Chernikov (5 November 1936 – 3 September 2007) was a notable Russian chess Grandmaster.
Chernikov was born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) and was awarded the title of Grandmaster in Correspondence Chess in 1980. He was an important chess figure in his time, known for his contributions as a player and theoretician.
Chernikov’s work as a theoretician was also notable. He published a number of books in Russian, notably "Rare Variations" and "1000 Chess Problems".
He died on 3 September 2007 in St. Petersburg, Russia.
