Nigel Rodney Davies, world-renowned Chess Grandmaster, was born on July 31, 1960, in Southport, England. His International Master title was received in 1982, and his Grandmaster title came in 1993. Besides his playing prowess, he is highly regarded for his work as a chess coach, commentator, author and DVD presenter.
He excelled in his early years by winning many British youth championships, leading to representing England at the World Youth Chess Championship in 1977, where he secured the 8th place. In the 1980s and 1990s, he played for England in numerous Chess Olympiads and European Team Chess Championships. Playing for Wales in 2015, he earned gold on the reserve board at the European Team Championship.
Apart from playing, Davies has written many books covering numerous aspects of chess. His choices of subject matter reflect that he has a broad interest in all aspects of the game and chess teaching. He is also noted for his work for ChessBase, producing DVDs on various chess subjects.
In 2015, Nigel changed his federation from England to Wales, the home country of his wife.
