Aleksander Delchev is a Bulgarian chess grandmaster and author. Born in 1971 in Sofia, Bulgaria, he learned chess at the age of six. He earned his International Master title in 1994 and his Grandmaster title in 1996. He has won several national and international tournaments, including the Bulgarian Championship in 1994, the European Individual Chess Championship in 2001, and the Belgrade Trophy in 2011.
Delchev has also represented Bulgaria in nine Chess Olympiads, from 1994 to 2012. In addition, he played for the national team in several European Team Chess Championships and World Team Chess Championships.
As an author, Delchev has written several chess books. His main work is a series of books called "The Safest Grünfeld" and "The Safest Sicilian", which detail his preferred chess openings. His books also discuss his interpretations of classic strategies and tactics.
He has also worked as a coach, training Bulgarian women's teams, as well as individual players.
