Vasif Durarbayli is a prominent Azerbaijani chess player, well-known for achieving the title of Grandmaster (GM) in 2011. Born on February 22, 1992, in Baku, Azerbaijan, Durarbayli showed an early prowess in chess.


Vasif was crowned European Youth Chess Champion twice in a row in the Under-10 category in 2002 and then in the Under 12 category in 2003. He also triumphed in the World Youth Chess Championship in the Under-10 class in 2002.


In 2011, Vasif Durarbayli was awarded the prestigious title of Grandmaster by FIDE. Some of his other significant achievements include winning a gold medal in the European Team Chess Championship with Azerbaijan in 2013 and clinching a bronze medal in the same competition in 2011.


Durarbayli participated and emerged victoriously in the World University Chess Championship which took place in Kazakhstan in 2012 as well.


He has represented Azerbaijan in the Chess Olympiad three times, in 2012, 2014, and 2016. Also, he was one of the members of the Azerbaijani team that bagged the gold medal in the European Team Championship in 2013.
