Danyyil Dvirnyy is an Italian chess player of Ukrainian origin who holds the prestigious title of Grandmaster. He was born on August 27, 1990, in Chernihiv, Ukraine. Dvirnyy began competing professionally in chess tournaments in Italy during the early 2000s, making significant strides by winning the Italian U16 Junior Championship (2006) and the Italian U18 Junior Championship (2007).

After receiving Italian citizenship in 2008, he began representing Italy in international competitions. Dvirnyy achieved the title of International Master in 2010, then earned the elite Grandmaster title in 2012 after bagging the Open Internazionale di Porto San Giorgio. He completed the grandmaster title requirements in the 35th Open International Bavarian Championship in Bad Wiessee and the Acropolis International Chess Tournament in Athens.

His chess skills have earned Dvirnyy a reputation for being one of Italy's leading chess players. He has represented Italy at the Chess Olympiad multiple times, where he drew games against high-profile players. He was a central figure in the Italian Premier League, with successful appearances for the team Obiettivo Risarcimento Padova.

Beyond competitive play, Dvirnyy also contributed to the academic study of chess. He graduated with a thesis on "The Mathematics of Chess" in 2014 from Bocconi University in Milan. This diverts towards the computational side of the game, researching combinatorial aspects, calculation of variants, and positional evaluations. It's said to have made a substantial contribution to the understanding of chess from an innovative viewpoint.

In terms of his chess style, Dvirnyy is portrayed as a player who is fond of positional play, preferring the implementation of strategies over outright attacks. Despite playing at such a high level, he maintains an interest in teaching, continuing to impart his knowledge of chess to aspiring players.

As for his ranking on the world and national stage, Dvirnyy’s highest ever global rank was 442nd position in the world, achieved in December 2014. In Italian national ranking standards, he reached as high as 2nd place, attained in July 2020.
