Zahar Efimenko is a Ukrainian chess Grandmaster and former Ukrainian champion. Born on July 3, 1985 in Makiivka, he was awarded the title International Master in 2001 and the Grandmaster title in 2007.
Efimenko has competed in a number of domestic and international tournaments. He achieved a record by becoming the Ukrainian champion in 2005, and then won the same tournament again in 2010. He also won the Cappelle-la-Grande Open in 2006 and 2010.
Efimenko has been a member of the national team in numerous team events. He has represented Ukraine in the 2006 and 2008 Chess Olympiads where they won gold and silver respectively. He also represented Ukraine in the European Team Chess Championship which was held in 2007 and 2011.
Efimenko's highest ever world ranking was in 2007 when he was ranked 37th in the world. His performance in the "A" group of the Dortmund Sparkassen Chess Meeting in 2010, where he finished in the upper half of the field, was considered a notable result. Efimenko is now a second at the World Chess championship for the Ukrainian grandmaster Vasyl Ivanchuk.
