Essam El Gindy (born 16 May 1966) is an Egyptian chess Grandmaster. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE (The International Chess Federation) in 2003. He has been a prominent figure in the chess world since the 1980s and has consistently been one of the top-ranked players in Egypt.


El Gindy has represented Egypt in several Chess Olympiads, and has been a part of the Egyptian team which has won numerous team championships in the Arab World and Africa. He has also triumphed in individual tournaments, such as the Arab Chess Championship in Dubai 1994, and the African Chess Championship in 2003 and 2007.


Beyond his performance on the chess board, El Gindy has served as the Head of the Egyptian Chess Federation, working to promote the game in the country. He is also a qualified International Arbiter, which allows him to referee at the highest level of chess tournaments.
