Urii Alexandrovich Eliseev was a Russian Chess Grandmaster, double wielder of World Youth Chess Championship titles and the winner of the 2016 Moscow Open. He was born on May 29, 1996 and tragically fell to his death on November 26, 2016.


As a child prodigy, Eliseev began his pursuit in competitive chess and won the World Youth Championships in 2007 in the Under 12 category. His success in the 2016 Moscow Open earned him his International Grandmaster title. Eliseev was an acclaimed member of the Central Chess Club in Moscow and a first-year student at the Russian State Social University. He was also a practitioner of parkour, an urban extreme sport.


His life was cut short when he died from a fall from the 12th story of his apartment building at the age of 20. According to one version, he was attempting a parkour stunt at the time of his fatal accident. His unexpected death was mourned by the whole chess community.
