Luis Engel is a German chess player who holds an International Master and Grandmaster title. He was born on September 17, 2002 and hails from Hamburg, Germany. Engel gained international attention in 2017 when he won the U16 German Chess Championship. After which, he achieved several notable feats including winning the 2019 German Youth Championship (U18), and the 3rd GRENKE Chess Open in Karlsruhe.
He received the International Master title in 2018 and the Grandmaster title in 2020, becoming the youngest German chess grandmaster at the age of 18. He has participated in numerous competitions including the Tata Steel Chess Tournament, where he was the youngest participant. Engel was also part of the German National Team at the 2020 Online Chess Olympiad.
