Evgenij Ermenkov is a Bulgarian chess Grandmaster and International Correspondence Chess Grandmaster. Born on March 29, 1949, in Ukraine's Kherson region, Ermenko's career has been extensive and successful.
By 1971, he had already been awarded the International Master (IM) title, and soon after he became a Grandmaster (GM) in 1977. This distinction was garnered after exceptional performances in a number of tournaments such as the Getxo 1976 competition and the 42nd USSR Championship, where he finished seventh and eighth respectively.
Ermenkov has also represented Bulgaria in several Chess Olympiads, a testament to his position as a leading player in the country. His first participation was in the 20th Chess Olympiad that took place in Lugano 1968, where he was part of the Bulgarian team that finished fifth.
In addition to his playing career, Ermenkov has written several books on chess, emphasizing his knowledge and expertise further. His writing explores topics such as 'The Semi-Open Games in Action', demonstrating his specific understanding and deep knowledge of chess strategies.
