Alexei Fedorov is a well-known chess Grandmaster, born on 27 September 1972 in Mogilev, Belarus. He won the Belarusian chess championship in 1995, 1997, and 2000.
He has competed in many international chess tournaments, making note-worthy achievements. His first key achievement came when he won the 1990 Soviet Union Chess Championship (U18). Other significant wins occurred in tournaments such as the Hastings tournament in 1997 and 1999, the Dubai Open Chess Championship in 1999, and the Vidmar Memorial in 2004. He scored another victory in the Petr Izmailov Memorial tournament held in Tomsk in 2010.
One of his most famous games was against former World Champion Viswanathan Anand, at the FIDE World Chess Championship in New Delhi, 2000. Despite playing a lower-seeded player, Anand was defeated by Fedorov in the early rounds, and this game has been celebrated in the international chess community since.
Through his career, Fedorov has also played for several different clubs, participating in national team championships in different European countries such as Spain, Germany, Finland, Montenegro, and Belarus.
