John Fedorowicz is an American chess player who earned the title of Grandmaster in 1986. He was born on September 27, 1958, in New York where he began to be involved in chess at an early age; he won the New York State Chess Championship twice and competed in the U.S. Junior Chess Championship three times prior to his breakthrough performance in the 1981 U.S. Championship.
Often referred to by his nickname "the Fed", John Fedorowicz is also a regular commentator at major U.S. events, including the U.S. Chess Championship and the Sinquefield Cup. Later in his career, he transitioned to a coaching role; among his students are notable chess players such as Fabiano Caruana.
