Nazar Firman is an Austrian chess Grandmaster (GM), born on September 29, 1983. He started playing chess at a very young age and established himself as an erudite player.
He has had a highly successful chess career. In January 2001, at the age of 17, he won the Austrian U20 Championship in Graz. Between 2003 and 2016, he won the Austrian Chess Championship four times.
He participated in the European Team Chess Championships in 2003 and 2005, playing for Austria. Apart from this, Firman has also represented Austria twice in the Chess Olympiads of 2004 and 2006.
In 2005, he won the 15th Hit Open Tournament in Nova Gorica. In the same year, he achieved the title of a Grandmaster.
Since the 2000s, he has participated in many successful tournaments in Austria and abroad. This includes winning the international tournament in Marseille in late 2014.
Not only a player, Firman is also a chess coach. Since 2007, he has been working in this capacity and helped many players improve their games. He has seen success as a coach as well, which includes training Austrian chess player Veronika Exler, who won the bronze medal at the European Girls' U18 Championship in 2008.
